September News

We are off to a great start in fourth grade! The students are quickly adapting to their new schedules and staff. We are now the "big kids" on the floor and are working on setting good examples for our younger students. We are Prayer Partners with the Pre-K 4's, and once again it is our turn to model appropriate behavior at Mass.

Each week we will have at least two times tests to help reinforce our basic fact skills. In order for our students to fully comprehend the concepts in Math, they need to have a strong foundation for recalling their multiplication and division facts up to the 12's. Flash cards or on-line apps are excellent tools for practice at home.

Spelling tests are every Friday. Please have your student practice their spelling words each evening.

I am asking that assignment notebooks be reviewed and signed by a parent each evening after completion of the assignments. This helps our students become responsible early in the school year for their homework.

I appreciate all of your help in getting our school year off to a smooth start.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Gilmore

Lent, Conferences, and Valentines Day

Parent, Student, Teacher Conferences will be held this Thursday in the gym from 9 am- 8 pm. Generally, each conference is expected to take 10-15 minutes, however, if you have concerns that will need more time, we should schedule an appointment next week.

Ash Wednesday, February 10th marks the beginning of the Lenten season. Students will receive ashes from Father Rob at Mass on Wednesday and will write their Lenten promise and act of good will on the back of a woven paper cross. These will be placed on their lockers as a reminder of Jesus' sacrifice for us.

We will be exchanging Valentine's with our classmates on Monday, February 15th.  If your child chooses to participate, please remember to bring enough valentines for each classmate, we have 16 students in 4th Grade. Adding a candy treat to each card is optional. Students should bring a decorated bag or box to collect their valentines, we will not be doing these at school.

Mr. Castrogiovanni has announced that the decorated classrooms doors were equally wonderful, therefore, all of the students have earned a Casual Day next Monday, February 15th.
